For all ten operators we went through every public review we could access on TripAdvisor and Google — more than 900 in total — not just the five-star highlights. That is how we know which guides travelers name again and again, where the genuine weak points are, and how each company actually behaves when a flight is cancelled or something goes wrong.

On Socotra almost everything is arranged over WhatsApp, so responsiveness before you pay is one of the clearest signals of how an operator runs. We contacted operators with a genuine enquiry and recorded how quickly — and how usefully — each one replied. Some answer within minutes; others take days or never reply at all.

Socotra has a long tail of dead, abandoned or copycat websites. We went looking for every operator site we could find — and 60% were inactive or unreachable. Since the biggest risk on Socotra is paying a deposit to an operator who then disappears, knowing which companies are genuinely active and contactable is half the battle. Every operator in our comparison is verified as active and reachable.
